The problem is what happens next.

The Architecture Has to Compensate for the Competence Gap
If polished output is no longer a reliable signal of sound judgment, the system has to do more of the protective work.
That means:
- grounded sources where the domain requires them
- clearer review boundaries
- approval gates before external legal effect
- audit trails that let reviewers see what the system did and why
- workflows designed on the assumption that a user may miss an important error
The answer to the competence gap is not telling people to prompt better.
It is building systems that do not let polished output outrun judgment.
The Honest Version
AI is transformative. It compresses timelines, reduces drudgery, and makes more work accessible to more people.
It also makes it easier to confuse fluency with expertise, production with understanding, and smooth output with sound judgment.
The people who will do the best work in this environment are not the ones who produce the most with AI. They are the ones who still know when to stop trusting the output and go deeper.
